Ancillary cross-sell opportunities

Understanding cross-sell opportunities presented in Spark.

Introduction

As you work a contact through discovery and plan selection, Spark surfaces the ancillary products you're able to sell that contact so cross-sell opportunities appear consistently, at the moment they're most relevant, instead of requiring you to spot and recall them mid-enrollment.

What products surface is driven by where the contact is located and what you can sell: the contact's state, your ready-to-sell status, and a few member-eligibility rules. Like Plan Fit's short list, this is decision support: Spark surfaces the opportunity, the decision to present and sell is yours.

NOTE: At this time, only users that have enabled Plan Fit Beta will see this feature.

Available ancillary products

Three categories, each addressing a common gap MA plans tend to leave behind:

  • Dental, Vision & Hearing (DVH) — standalone coverage that complements a plan's dental allowance, with DPPO flexibility beyond restrictive Medicare networks.

  • Hospital Indemnity (HI) — a fixed cash benefit for covered hospital stays that helps offset MA cost-sharing.

  • Short-Term Care (STC) — a daily benefit toward extended care at home or in a facility, for when MA benefits are limited or run out.

Where opportunities are presented

Opportunities surface in two places, and both show the same set of products for a given contact:

  • On the Contact Details page — a “Cross-sell Opportunities” section lists the available ancillary products for that contact, alongside the plan short list.

  • At enrollment checkout — once you've selected a Medicare plan to enroll, the same opportunities appear as a list on the checkout step.

When an opportunity appears

For each product, Spark keeps only the carriers where all three hold:

  • the carrier offers that product in the contact's state

  • you're ready-to-sell for that carrier

  • the contact falls within the carrier's issue-age window

If at least one carrier qualifies, the product shows with its eligible carrier(s), if several qualify, you may see more than one. If none qualify, the product is hidden.

Some contacts won't surface opportunities at all. Opportunities are excluded for contacts who are dual-eligible or who have chronic conditions. Issue-age rules also apply:

  • HI isn't shown for contacts over 85

  • STC isn't shown for contacts over 80

How to use it

Each surfaced product shows the gap it can fill, the carrier(s) you can sell it through in that state, and a link out to the carrier. Select the link to open the carrier's portal, where quoting, configuration, and enrollment all take place: ancillary enrollment completes on the carrier's site.

Carriers in scope

At launch, surfaced carriers come from:

  • Aetna Supplemental

  • Cigna Supplemental

  • Physicians Mutual

  • Mutual of Omaha

  • NCD

  • Heartland National Life

  • Medico/Wellaby

  • UHOne

You'll only see the ones you're appointed and ready-to-sell with in the contact's state.
